Caterpillar 16M: The introduction
Operators and entrepreneurs alike both want the same thing in any industry. That’s an increase in productivity in all operations. Now, you would normally think that being productive is in the hands of the operator. If they’re being quick and efficient in what they’re doing, then most likely, productivity is going to improve. Well, there is truth in that. However, another factor that could influence this aspect is the kind of machine you have. If you’re working with an old model, then profits are sure to decrease in the near future. This means that you need to equip your business with a reliable and high quality equipment in order to boost productivity and profitability. Well, I got just the right machine for you, and that’s the Caterpillar 16M grader.
Graders are vital heavy duty equipment in the construction industry. So if you want to know more about this machine, then check out my quick review below.
Caterpillar 16M: Key features
One of the things that makes Caterpillar a leading manufacturing company is that they incorporate powerful engines in their machines. And the 16M grader is not an exception. It has a Cat® C13 ACERT™ VHP engine that can deliver up to 221kW. It boasts of 2000rpm and a maximum torque of 1410N-m. This 6-cylinder engine has a displacement of 12.5L and a 50% torque rise.
In addition to those, the 16M grader has a direct drive, power shift, and countershaft transmission. It also features an electro-hydraulic, load sensing, closed center circuit type hydraulic system. Lastly, it comes with a massive fuel tank capacity of 492L that would allow you to accomplish your tasks without any downtime.
One surefire way of increasing productivity is by providing operators with a comfortable working environment. In comparison to conventional lever controls, this grader makes use of two electro-hydraulic joysticks. These actually reduce hand and wrist movement by 78%. Another installation is the Cat® Comfort Series suspension seat. This features a high-back design with thick cushions. You can even adjust the lumbar support to distribute your weight evenly. There’s also more leg room so you can stretch and relax when you need to. Furthermore, there’s less vibration with the isolation mounting of the cab. This basically promotes a quiet interior for a more comfortable work environment.
Caterpillar integrated the Operator Presence System in the 16M grader. This engages the parking brake whilst disabling the hydraulic implements until the operator sits and readies the machine for operation. More than that, there’s the secondary steering system that will allow you to stop the machine in case there’s a drop in steering pressure. Then there are the standard safety features such as the circle drive slip clutch, the blade lift accumulators, and the engine shutoff switch. However, if you still want to enhance the safety of this grader, then you can do so by availing of the other optional extras.
