Review: 2009 Caterpillar 12M Grader
Caterpillar 12M: The introduction
The construction site is home to some of the most versatile heavy duty equipment in the industry. In every workplace, you will surely find an excavator, a backhoe, and many more machinery. Today, we’re going to focus our attention to a very flexible machine that is essential to forming the foundation of any infrastructure and road. I’m talking about the grader. So let’s get to our review of the 2009 Caterpillar 12M.
Caterpillar 12M: Key features
Caterpillar has always been consistent with providing the power and efficiency you’d demand for your business. Well, Cat equipped the 12M with the C7 ACERT engine that promotes maximum productivity. This 6-cylinder engine can deliver a maximum torque of 1,052Nm and a rated power of 2,000 rpm. In addition, this engine incorporates the ACERT Technology. This actually optimises fuel efficiency. Lastly, the C7 ACERT engine meets the emission standards around the world.
To promote easy operations, Caterpillar installed two electro-hydraulic joysticks. These are very simple to use and easy to learn. They even come with the electronically adjustable control pods. With this, you can position the joysticks in a way that is comfortable for you.
So the left joystick is for steering whereas the right mainly controls the different drawbar and moldboard functions. There is a steering control that reduces steering sensitivity at higher ground speeds. This is basically for predictable control. I would also mention the integration of the Electronic Throttle Control that matches the horsepower to the demands of the application. Finally, it features the articulation return-to-center function that returns the 12M to a straight frame position with a touch of a button.
To further improve productivity, it is important that our operators are comfortable in their cabin. With the 12M grader, you can enjoy maximum visibility with the angled cab doors, tapered engine enclosure, and sloped rear window. Aside from that, this spacious cab reduces fatigue with the intelligent interior design and with the installation of the adjustable suspension seat.
Smart machine systems
Since efficiency is key to every productive operation, Cat offers a number of innovations in the 12M. Among them are the optional Cat Grade Control and Accugrade Attachment Ready Option that allow for easier control. There is also the Cat Product Link that provides remote monitoring capabilities. Furthermore, the Cat Messenger is another installation that improves diagnostic capability. Of course, safety is still of utmost importance with the incorporation of the operator presence monitoring system, the speed sensitive steering, and the secondary steering system.
