Caterpillar 12H VHP: The introduction
In the construction industry, the first thing that contractors consider is the foundation of what they’re building. And ensuring a strong one rests on the shoulder of the grader machine. Basically, this heavy duty equipment is essential in forming the groundwork for infrastructures and road. That’s why the grader is one of the most vital machinery in the sector. So if you are part of this industry, then I’m sure that you’re fully aware of what I’m talking about. But not all graders are equal in their performance. Of course, there are some that can deliver more power and better results. One such brand that can definitely do so is Caterpillar. That’s a no-brainer, right? But nonetheless, if you’d like to know what I think about their 12H VHP, then read my review on the said grader.
Caterpillar 12H VHP: Key features
Powerful engine and hydraulics
Caterpillar equipped this grader with the Cat® C-9 ETA VHP. This 6-cylinder turbocharged engine is air-to-air aftercooled. It features a gross base power (all gears) of 156hp at 2000rpm. It also boasts of a maximum torque of 728.71lb-fit. And because of its low rated speed and high displacement, this engine provides excellent fuel economy. In addition to that, the C-9 engine is durable enough to reduce operating costs significantly.
As for its hydraulics, the 12H VHP has the advanced proportional priority pressure-compensating (PPPC) hydraulic valves. In essence, this delivers an enhanced machine performance, as well as a better control on the implement.
Visibility and serviceability
Once you step inside the cabin, you’re sure to notice how visible everything is from where you are. Cat redesigned the operator’s console to improve this aspect. Not to mention that the large side windows offer a fantastic view of the moldboard heel and tandem tires. With this arrangement, the company guarantees a more confident and efficient performance from you.
Now, aside from the lessening of operating costs, there’s also going to be a reduction of downtime with the 12H VHP grader. That’s because the service center on the left aide allows for an easy access to the maintenance points. With the large hinged doors, you can quickly do your routine inspections. It’s worth mentioning as well that the 378L fuel tank promotes longer work shifts. So you can obviously save both time and money with this machine.
In comparison with its predecessors, the 12H VHP is more environmental in nature. It meets all U.S. EPA Tier 2 and EU Stage II emissions control standards worldwide. Plus, it features a quiet cab thanks to the mounted engine, as well as the transmission that minimizes interior engine noise and vibration. This grader is proud of its fuel efficiency, low noise levels of 75db(A), and low emissions. Lastly, it protects the ozone by incorporating air-conditioning units that use a refrigerant that’s free of CFCs.
